The author visited my classroom to share her story with my students, and to encourage them to share their own stories. Anne's presentation completely captivated my young students--even the most reticent and recently-arrived, limited-English students were anxious to share. Her warm and encouraging manner drew every child into the discussion. Shy Mama's Halloween is a book that encourages children to think about our different experiences and attitudes in an accepting and open-minded manner.

Thank you for your wonderful presentation about "Priscilla and the Hollyhocks". Over 50 of our members enjoyed this educational activity. It was very interesting how you started off by talking about the extensive research you did and what it took to write this book. The kids were all so interested since you used visuals such as maps, pictures, and old records. Jeopardy was also a nice way to tie in what the kids understood from the story. The part of the presentation that I thought drew in the kids the most was when you had kids act out the different scenes in the book. Thanks so much for taking the time to come to the Club.

Through Anne's book and presentation my students experienced a new awareness and perspective of the world around them. She was the facilitator; the students found the connections. It was fabulous.

Anne’s style was interactive and kept the kids very involved and captivated. She brought in some artifacts for the kids to see if they could figure out for themselves what the item was and what it might have been used for. The kids were able to be research detectives themselves and looked for clues to help them identify the object. Anne illustrated the research and writing process in a fun and interactive way.
