HOW TO HOST A SUCCESSFUL AUTHOR VISIT
When I come to your school or organization, I offer presentations and writing workshops that are engaging, informative and age appropriate. My goal is to validate each student's creativity and give them additional tools for their craft, inspiring them to read, write and make art. Let's work together to make my time with your students memorable and inspiring for their own writing and reading.
What you can do:
•Contact How Now Booking sarah@hownowbooking.com to book school visits and workshops. They can answer any of your questions about schedule and pricing.
•Prepare the students. My time with them will mean a lot more if they have read at least one of my books. The more that students know about me and about my books, the more they’ll look forward to my visit and feel invested in our time together.
•Encourage the teachers to be present and involved during the presentation as a good role model for students.
•Have books available for me to personalize for the kids. Having a special signed book from an author they met can mean a lot to students, You can find an order form here. If you want one-stop shopping for all of my books, Annie Bloom's Books can send you copies of all of them. For bulk orders of I'M GONNA PAINT and PRISCILLA AND THE HOLLYHOCKS, here's the place.
•Plan a schedule that leaves plenty of time to get the students into your library or auditorium, settled and ready for a fun presentation, then up and back to their classrooms. Ten to fifteen minutes between presentations gives some breathing space for teachers and leaders...and me!
•Check out “Make It Happen: Awesome Author and Illustrator Visits” and “Education Grants for Books, Author Visits, School Programs, Professional Development & More” from author Donna Janell Bowman.
